Re: off subject as i usually am/ gi
Have been thinking about this, there are - and were - lots of good girl bands. But good as girl bands or just good? Throwing Muses was excellent in the beginning, the debut was some of the weirdest music at that time, and I see it as girl music and highly original. But the male drummer was also important. They did a lot better than Kim Deal, beeing supressed in Pixies. Think I know why Pixies were higher rated than early Throwing Muses! Breeders of course, with Deal and her sister and Donelly from T Muses and Josephine Wiggs. Have stumbled over some post punk groups like 7 Year Bitch and Tsunami, very fresh. And not at least Lusciuos Jackson, started in Beastie Boys style, later more laidback with even some jazz elements, a real favourite here. Together with other girl groups and artists like Lisa Germano, Liz Phair, PJ Harvey, Toni Halliday in Curve, girls made some of the most inventive and complicated music in the 90s, if you compare to all that grunge and britpop. Thanks to Patti Smith and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth. What girls think of girl artists? Have wondered why some women I know can't stand female singers! One screaming and running away when I play Joni Mitchell (but not to that "ugly" Dylan voice!), not to mention Marianne Faithfull. But Patti Smith is ok? Just wonder why this is so. I can stand male singers and bands, hehe.
