Re: food for thought
Thus spake Tara Vanportfleet (tv@support-cause.arrdis.com): > i'm asking that we keep our conversation on more of a "serious" vein on > here. the reason i ask this is because all the silly stuff seems to annoy > people and it just clutters up their mailboxes. if you want to share silly > things, with me, or anyone else....please send them directly instead of Absolutely a good idea. This is even in the list etiquette, but it often takes time for people to get used to it. Most new users of the 'net aren't familiar with net-etiquette and what's expected of them, what to avoid and so forth. So when someone does something bone-headed. It would be nice for someone to let them know privately *in a nice fashion* of course. On the same token, we wouldn't want the user to get flooded with complains and feel bad... so this is kinda a touchy subject at times. 99% of the time however, people ignore stuff like that. I see this at work all the time. Despite the fact that some of the people are sort-of familiar with computers and the Internet, they're really quite stupid and do very lame things because they don't know any better. hehe. So it's hard to decide on how to handle those situations at times. I don't want to hurt their feelings, yet I also don't want the behaviour to continue. Eventually they'll upset "the wrong person" and find their poor little wintendo machine reformatted or something. > posting them to the list. i'm not trying to be a jerkface or anything....but > the whole point of the list is to share thoughts and such, and to spread > information regarding Lycia or other pertinent information. i hope i haven't > made anyone mad..... Na, I don't think anyone would be mad at you. The whole point of the list is for lycia discussion, and deviating from that is not a good thing (tm). No one wasn't to receive rubbish in their email that they do not need. Of course there's a lot of non-lycia things that would be appropriate, so the poster needs to use discretion when posting. The general rule for everyone is to think before posting: Is this relevant to lycia, if not would it be interesting to lycia fans? There's a lot of things that's not directly related to lycia but would be of interest to everyone. Such as movies, art, poetry, events and so on. For things like this, it's just a matter of discretion in determining what's appropriate. If you don't feel that it's appropriate, but you still want to reply to the thread, then by all means send it to the user in private. Another thing I could do is this: If someone is upset by a thread that has gone out of control, they can email me about it and I can then stop the thread from continuing. As always, any questions, comments, or suggestions, please let me know. Cheerio... -- , oneiros (oneiros@support-cause.darkspire.net) | #lycia / tietNET, EFnet ' , http://lycia.darkspire.net | .
