FW: tara rev.
thought i'd forward this rad review!! http://www.supersphere.com/Radio/Reviews.html?NAME=womb Tara Vanflower: This Womb Like Liquid Honey Label: Projekt Records Year: 1999 Why not a children's album? Current 93 have been making them for quite sometime, so it's only natural that another revered artist from the gothic music milieu creates another sickly sweet pop concoction for any age. Tara Vanflower is the main voice behind the acclaimed Lycia, and this is her first solo album. It's strangely uplifting too, which seems to be a natural progression from the direction Lycia albums have been taking. At times it recalls the postmodern folk of Current 93, Rose McDowell, and even moments of the circus-like atmosphere of Legendary Pink Dots and the Virgin Prunes. Lush instrumentation, ever-present echo, moments of spoken word, hypnotically charged loops, and high notes buffered by thudding bass create the background for songs involving images of Grimm's fairy tales, anamorphic animal attributes, Christianity, and claustrophobia. The progression becomes more hallucinatory as the album carries on, culminating in the disturbing sounds of a music box and the distant sound of Tara's voice reciting a poem, lost in a haze of childhood's memory. A haunting first solo effort. Standouts: Little Bleu Cherry Girl, Elephant Related links: Projekt Lisa Feuer __________________________________________ Projekt Records promo@support-cause.projekt.com http://www.projekt.com |
