Explanation and help

Power search.

Enter some words. I'll search the lycia archives and return all messages which contain all these terms. You can use as many lines as you need.

If you are getting too few results, try altering your terms or taking one or more out. If you're getting many irrelevant results, you can refine your query by adding more words to narrow things down, or by excluding certain terms. To exclude messages containing something, precede the term with a -. For example:

carp -fish

This will search for messages about carp, but not the fish.

Number of results

You can see more or less results per page, or limit the total number of results to retrieve.

Sorting

This controls the order in which the results appear.

Time-frame

Various options to control the time and date parameters of your search.

Time zone preference

This sets your preferred timezone for both entering dates and display.

Search within a time-frame

Search messages posted within a timeframe. Dates can be specified in a loose fashion, or left out to assume the minimum or maximum time for the from or to values, respectively. If you leave the timezone out, whichever one is selected in your time zone preference is used. You can also use dates like last saturday or yesterday and times like noon and midnight.

Experiment, I'll let you know if I can not figure it out. (TODO: write doc describing all date formats)

For example:

From: 1999/09,, To: 2000/01
From: (left blank), To: 2001/01/20
From: last monday midnight, To: now (or left blank)
From: Tue Apr 4 00:22:12 PDT 1995, To: 9:00pm -2 months

Various headers

Search for things in various headers. You can use one or more of these in conjunction with your power search terms, or by itself. Just like in power search, you can exclude by preceeding the word with a -.

These are handy for either including additional critera to your search, or excluding certain threads, authors, etc. By itself, you can use one or more of these to find messages posted by specific people, specific threads, find specific messages, and so on.

Match all words will require all of your search terms to be present in the given header.

Match any words will require any of your search terms to be present in the given header.
